BAO FOUNDERS MIXER: Damilola Ogunseye (Investor & Director, Mobihealth), Mope Abudu (Founder/CEO, Knight Ventures) and Joy Harrison-Abiola (BAO Board Advisor).

The startup ecosystem in Nigeria witnessed a breath of fresh air and renewed energy as Business Africa Online (BAO) hosted key stakeholders in the startup ecosystem at an evening of knowledge sharing, discussions, and fun at the Cilantro Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. It was a gathering of founders, innovators, disrupters, creators, investors, venture studio operators, policymakers, and leaders in various sectors of the polity to share ideas, strategies, and opportunities across the table in a relaxed atmosphere with the goal to build more alliances, collaborate more, and deepen the startup ecosystem in Nigeria.

The theme for the event was “Building Alliances and Collaboration as a Catalyst for Growth.” It had experienced speakers and panelists take a more pragmatic approach to the topic, and they came up with solutions and ideas that will be beneficial to the startup ecosystem. From their various perspectives as venture capitalists, Venture studio operators, Startup CEOs, and Legal professionals, they shared their rich experiences and knowledge of the industry.

From the keynote speakers to the panelists, there was emphasis laid on the need for founders, creators, innovators, and other leaders in the startup ecosystem to collaborate with business enablers both within and outside their industry. They also encouraged the continuous engagement of the government to implement policies that encourage growth and sustainability in the ecosystem.

The panel session in particular did not leave any stone unturned in dealing with the everyday issues faced by the different stakeholders concerned, and they did a great job by providing the best ideas and solutions to the challenges that were identified. They also entertained questions from the audience, which further enhanced the quality of the conversation that evening. The team from BAO promised to continue to share media materials from the event with the general public to extend the benefits of the conversation to a larger community.

One of the strengths of the event was that every aspect or session of it was handled by deeply experienced professionals in that sector or field. Some of the speakers present were Joy Harrison-Abiola (BAO Board Advisor), Damilola Ogunseye (Investor & Director, Mobihealth), and Mope Abudu (Founder/CEO, Knight Ventures).  The panelists include Uwem Uwemakpan, Ashley Immanuel, Caleb Maru, and Mary Ekemezie. The event was anchored by Mercy Frank, TV Anchor at Silverbird TV.

According to the CEO of BAO, Alaba Ayinuola, who was on the ground to lead the conversation with the speakers, guests, and partners; he noted that the BAO FOUNDERS MIXERS idea was conceived barely 4 weeks ago, and expressed his gratitude to everyone who believed in the idea and took the risk regardless of the short notice to see to its success.
