TuneCore Partners Beatport To Enhance Seamless Music Distribution For Independent Artists

TuneCore, a leading development partner for self-releasing artists has partnered with Beatport, the global leader in music for DJs, producers, and their fans, to enable Tunecore artists in Nigeria to distribute their songs to the platform. The new partnership will enable Tunecore artists utilizing any of Unlimited distribution plans to send their music to the Beatport platform allowing artists to get their music in front of Beatport’s robust user base of electronic music fans, tastemakers, and professional DJs, as well as the platform’s in-house curation team.

Speaking on the collaboration, Tunecore CEO, Andreea Gleeson said: “The partnership will offer comprehensive distribution options for our electronic artists around the world, and give them access to a direct pipeline from their recording studio to the vibrant world of clubs, festivals, and radio, as well as the potential for additional promotional opportunities through Beatport’s DJ Charts and renowned editorial features.”

To celebrate the partnership, Tunecore, and Beatport will commence a talent hunt in May to discover and promote up-and-coming electronic music artists and producers. Submissions will be open for artists currently distributed by Tunecore and will be evaluated by an experienced and diverse panel of industry professionals.

This major collaboration marks the official launch of the Canon Young People Programme (YPP) in Ghana, with a mission to enable the next generation of creative young people, using their skills to tackle the sustainability issues that matter to them, using creativity and critical thinking.

The introduction of Canon’s YPP in Ghana marks a significant milestone in the country’s landscape. This initiative will offer young people unprecedented opportunities for growth and impact on the African continent. Through YPP, young creative talent in Ghana can access essential resources, state-of-the-art equipment, and expert training that will empower their storytelling. This pioneering initiative provides a platform for young people to make their mark on the continent, positioning Ghana as a hub for emerging creative talent. The collaboration between Canon and the Dikan Center came about through Canon’s recognition of Paul Ninson’s work, the founder of the Dikan Center, and his commitment to empowering the youth in Africa. Canon saw a unique opportunity to align its mission of creating opportunities for young African talent, with the goals of the Dikan Center. The core of this collaboration is a series of immersive storytelling workshops designed to run every weekend over two months. Local trainers from Ghana, provided by Dikan Center, will work in partnership with Canon, offering resources and essential equipment.

The focus of these workshops is threefold:

Comprehensive Education: Participants will gain insights into the value of sustainability for our future using the framework of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Technical Training: Participants will learn the technical side of how to use a camera, receiving training from experts in the field.

Visual Storytelling: The heart of this programme is to empower young people to become storytellers for sustainable change. Participants will choose specific SDGs and capture evocative imagery that convey their personal stories.

The journey will culminate in a professionally curated exhibition, scheduled to be held during a story festival organized by Dikan Center, in December 2023. This platform will showcase the remarkable narratives and perspectives captured by the participants, fostering a profound exchange of ideas and visions.

Looking ahead, both Canon and the Dikan Center intend to continue and expand this initiative in the future, creating further opportunities for African talent and collaborations that empower young people to create positive change.

Obi Asika is acknowledged as one of the key African voices in the cultural, creative, innovation and sports sectors. He is a policy expert, thought leader, a regular keynote speaker on the creative, cultural and innovation industries as well as being an executive producer for Film & TV, Music and Live events. Obi is one of the visionaries who with his record Label Storm records, led the globalisation of Nigerian music and the global arrival of Afrobeats. 

He has created several tv shows and reality formats and also licensed and produced global formats. Obi was the executive producer for the first Big Brother Nigeria in 2005, he established Endemol Nigeria at that time. Obi was also Executive Producer for The Apprentice Africa, Dragons Den Nigeria, 100% Naija for Channel O, All Access Africa for Channel O, Vodafone Icons in Ghana, Naija Sings in Nigeria, both original reality formats.

As Chairman, Co-Founder Ampn West Africa he also launched As the Winner is  and I love Nigeria which were Talpa Formats and before exiting launched the Voice Nigeria. Obi was Chairman and Co-Founder of SocialMediaWeek Lagos, from 2012-2020 which became one of the largest new media conferences on the continent. 

Obi Asika is a member of the core group of the Presidential Advisory Committee for the Nigerian Start Up Act and has worked on significant legislation in the spaces affecting creative industries,copyright, ip, innovation, sports and the entertainment industry. Obi Asika is presently driving a new ecosystem platform for the tech, innovation and connected industries called The Omniverse which is launching in 2023

Obi led the Technical Working Group in 2019-2021  which for the first time brought the CCHT (Culture, Creative, Hospitality, Tourism industries) to the Nigeria National Dev Plan 2020-2050. Obi Asika has been the principal advocate for Nigerian Soft Power since 2010. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Nigeria Olympic Committee and is presently also a judge on television for Nigerian Idol. He continues to produce important projects with the most recent being The Journey of the Beats on Showmax, a 10 part series which tracks the history and journey of Nigerian music through the ages.

Obi Asika sits at the nexus of culture, content and technology. He continues to influence policy and leaders to bring more attention to these sectors which include, sports, entertainment, technology, art, fashion, culture and the wider creative industries. Mr Asika is a born storyteller and has spent a lifetime producing content in multiple ways across multiple platforms.
